The George is a pub slash bar, delivering gourmet burgers and a few pub classics. Located in the hub of student living, The George serves up cheap food and drinks in a cosy environment.

The Venue
The George is situated on the junction of Crwys, Albany, Mackintosh and City Road. Due to its location between the two Cardiff universities it is a very student-focused spot. Despite its appearance from the outside, its interior is artistic and comfortable and comes complete with a pool table and sports screens.

The Atmosphere
The George is warm and friendly, with an open plan layout and deep, comfy chairs. It is the perfect place to come before a night out or for a midday bite to eat. Although predominantly a student bar, it is possible to find quiet corners away from the noise and have a quiet time with your beloved. For students, however, The George is part of the ubiquitous It’s A Scream chain and if you’re lucky enough to possess a Yellow Card, you will be entitled to drinks promotions and the infamous pound-a-pint Tuesdays.

The Food
The George offers typical pub food alongside a wide and creative selection of burgers, all of which are very reasonably priced. There is also chance to buy two meals for £5.95, although it would be a crime to miss out on the slightly pricier gourmet burgers, which are delicious. Why not try the Scream chicken burger complete with onion rings for a filling lunchtime meal? The desserts are good value too, especially the chocolate fudge cake, which is big enough for two and is served with vanilla-pod ice cream. One downside however, to The George is waiting for the meals to arrive, and, on occasion, the meals are incomplete. While it’s by no means a restaurant, good service shouldn’t be skimpt on.

The Drink
The George has popular lagers on tap. They also have bottled Brother’s cider, with the strawberry cider an increasingly popular tipple. All the alcohol is cheaply priced, with many drinks promotions offering even cheaper deals for students, like that not-to-be-missed pound a pint on Tuesdays.

The Last Word
For students, The George is a great venue to come for cheap food and drink. The food is great for the price and the atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable. However, don’t expect fine dining or a fast service.
