A cut above the rest, this popular establishment will satisfy even the fussiest of eaters with its superb selection of food and drink.

The Venue
Located in the buzzing Mermaid Quay, lies a modern, friendly eatery that provides a breath of fresh air to this cultural and political hub of Wales. Part owned by Welsh actor and Hollywood star Ioan Gruffudd, this popular retreat has more to offer than just celebrity hype.

Large polished glass windows garnish the outside, which open out to a suitably quaint al fresco seating area ideal to accommodate customers on a sunny afternoon or blue skied winter’s day. Take a step inside and discover the stunning bespoke interior, which is enhanced by the use of natural textures such as Welsh slate and dark brown leather seating.

The Atmosphere
Offering a lively yet comfortable ambience, Mimosa manages to appeal to a wide assortment of customers of all age ranges. This homely feel is enhanced by the pleasant attitude of the staff, who are both eager to help and knowledgeable with the menu, which allows an exceptionally efficient service.

The Food
In the kitchen, they pride themselves on a strong emphasis of using quality, locally sourced produce, including free range, GM free, Fairtrade and organic ingredients. The contemporary bilingual menu offers a wide variety of top quality Welsh dishes, with options from breakfast through to dinner. For vegetarians, there are plenty of alternatives. The breakfast menu serves up the delicious smoked mackerel and scrambled eggs at £5.50, as well as the hugely popular Full Welsh at a reasonable £6.95. If you’re looking for a healthier lunchtime option sample the goat’s cheese crostini with apple and celeriac salad. From the a la carte menu, the flavoursome wild sea bass with sauteed new potatoes and fennel is served with a herb relish, and is a filling option at £14.95.

The Drink
A comprehensive list of wines and cocktails are available, with a list of over 20 wines from the likes of Chile, France and New Zealand, to ensure you have the right accompaniment to your meal.

The Last Word
On the whole, with its reasonable pricing, Michelin standards and stunning design, Mimosa is without doubt one of the shining lights in Cardiff Bay’s glittering crown of eateries.
