Situated in Roath’s busiest shopping district, just off Albany Road, Juno Lounge is a great place to stop by for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just a quick latte whilst browsing Wellfield Road’s numerous boutiques.

The Venue
Laid out over three floors, and with a lovely roof terrace for smokers and sun worshippers alike, the interior is inviting and comfortable with sanded floors and tables, loose cushions and quirky black and white photographs on the wall.

The decor is minimal without being intimidating, with blackboards rather than menus and low level lighting. There is disabled access, although negotiating all the tables to get to the toilets at the back of the building is potentially tricky.

The Atmosphere
Part of very small chain, Juno has a friendly, informal and lively atmosphere. Frequented by a clientele spanning all ages and occupations (small children are very welcome with high chairs provided), the vibe is definitely relaxed, with board games, newspapers, books and free wi-fi for customers to take advantage of.

Food is served from 9am until 10pm and the bar stays open until 11pm, evenings are a more adult affair with candles and ambient lighting, a little gentle music and the occasional quiz.

The Food
The busy specials board is frequently altered at Juno, but regulars include really good burgers and delicious tapas dishes that you can share with friends for around £2-£3 each. On any given day you might be able to savour the bell peppers stuffed with feta; risotto balls filled with pesto and mozzarella, or chilli fried squid, to name a mouth-watering few. They also do a fantastic Sunday roast (£8.95), which is a big favourite with locals. There are always lots of vegetarian options too.

The Drink
For those not eating, the bar at Juno offers a range of bottled beers as well as Becks Vier (£2.95 a pint) and Staropramen on draft. Joining the lagers is a house cask ale called Tilgaman (£2.90 a pint). There is also a cocktail menu, a selection of spirits and some very drinkable wines. For those in need of refreshment there’s a big choice of soft drinks, juices and smoothies, and if you just want a hit of caffeine to keep you going on your trawl of the wonderful second hand shops in the area, Juno does the best espresso in town (single: £1.50/ double: £1.70)

The Last Word
At a time when more and more of Cardiff’s bars and cafes are succumbing to pressure from the big student-targeted chains, Juno Lounge manages to create an atmosphere agreeable to all ages. You will be welcomed by the friendly staff, and whether you are looking for somewhere to enjoy a quick snack, or you want a more leisurely drinking and dining experience, Juno won’t disappoint.
