It's a bog-standard Wetherspoons but the Central Bar nevertheless pulls in the hungry and thirsty crowds.

The Venue
This imaginatively named bar is a Wetherspoons site, but if you have a look at the menu you'd guess that anyway. To prove the fact that some people can’t get too much of a bland thing this place is almost a facsmilie of Lloyd’s No 1 across the way. Surprise, surprise it's dark maroon and off-white inside and the carpet is traditionally patterned in dismal dark reds and greens. Have you been here before?

At least, like all Wetherspoons, if you're own you don't feel lonely. The large windows and ledges were built so you can sit your pint down and gawp at people scuttling past in the rain. The whole place is a bit murky, apart from the totally incongruous bright green neon strip of light which covers part of the ceiling and really has nothing to do with anything. There’s booth seating and a beer patio out the back too. It opens at nine every day for the early risers and those needing to get over last night’s drinking.

The People
The crowd here ranges from football-mad lads who are still a bit excited about landing their first job to older, weathered manual workers. There's also white wine quaffing office juniors and chirpy old ladies who are keen on the meal deals.

The Food and Drink
There’s loads of reasonably priced fare - from pasta dishes, sandwiches and wraps to salads, burgers and jacket potatoes all for £3.69. As with all Wetherspoons there are deals and you can get two meals for £7.69. There are cheap breakfasts too as well as a children’s menu.

On tap there’s the usual range of brews from Coors, Carling, Guinness and Fosters to Strongbow, Kronenbourg and John Smith’s, as well as Evan-Evans traditional Welsh ale, Abbott Ale and Marston’s Pedigree.

The Last Word
Sell your soul by revelling in the fact that you've bought a meal and a pint for under £10. As with all Wetherspoons this is a popular pre-payday pitstop.
