Cafe Floyd is a hidden and welcome retreat from the rowdy drinkers on nearby St Mary Street.

The Venue
Floyds bar is an independent bar hidden above a clothes shop on St. Mary Street. It is a small and intimate venue attracting a more sophisticated crowd.

The entrance is through a side door, next to Floyds clothing, and is easily missed. It is an oasis of calm, which is in direct contrast to the chaos that takes over the main drinking and clubbing street in Cardiff.

It is simply decorated with wooden flooring, mirrors and minimal features. It is intimate; the people make the place not the decoration.

The People
You won’t find any of the fancy dress, sports mob or those people easily distracted by chain bars and neon lights trying to get served here. Instead you are greeted with sofas, small tables and a soft candle lit interior. A front facing window gives you prime position to look over the passing crowds.

This place is found through word of mouth. The clientele are discerning and cultured but not stuck up. It has a wine bar feel but because it is independent it remains unique. The staff are welcoming and glad you have finally found them.

The Drink
Floyds bar boasts over 250 spirits. If they haven’t got it, it’s probably not worth drinking. There is no beer or ale on tap, so everything is bottled. There is a wide range of European bottled beer, which often changes. Always ask the staff for their latest recommendation; even if you don’t go with their choice, they are happy to instruct you. A vodka and orange is £3.50 and bottled beers start around the £3 price bracket.
